Randolph Offers Lynchburg's Only No Shame Theatre

LYNCHBURG—Randolph College will continue to host Lynchburg’s only No Shame Theatre this semester, with performances every Friday beginning Jan. 28. No Shame Theatre is a live, open venue for performers of all kinds and provides a performance space for writers, singers, actors, dancers, and others to showcase original work in five minute intervals.

No Shame: Lynchburg will occur each Friday in the lab theatre on the 2^nd floor of Leggett Building, on Randolph College’s campus. There will be up to 15 performances of five minutes in length each week. Performance slots will be filled on a first come, first served basis. All material performed at No Shame must be original, must not exceed five minutes, and must not break the law or the space.

No Shame Theatres have been around since the mid-80s. The first No Shame was originally established as a venue for writers to share their most recent work in a live theatrical environment. This first No Shame actually used a truck-bed as a stage and was illuminated by the headlight of a motorcycle. As No Shame grew, it came to encompass all art forms and encouraged all artists to share original work.

The No Shame moniker refers to the supportive environment that No Shame provides the artists. “Sharing new work or exploring controversial ideas can be intimidating,” said organizer and Randolph professor Mace Archer. “No Shame encourages artists not to be ashamed of their own efforts or their own ideas.”

Randolph’s fall No Shame events featured a wide range of performances including new music, stand-up comedy, poetry, short stories, dramatic readings, and Tae Kwon Do.

No Shame: Lynchburg is held every Friday at 10:45 p.m. Performers sign up a half hour before the show begins. Admission is pay-what-you-can with a recommended admission of $5. For more information, call (434) 947-8563
