Driver Lecture Features Filmmaker Richard Robinson

LYNCHBURG — Randolph College will host filmmaker Richard Robinson Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in Leggett 537. Robinson’s “The Beekeepers” will be shown. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Robinson’s career began in photography. His portraits, editorials, and architectural shots have appeared in publications such as Washington Post Magazine, Southern Accents Magazine, and the Smithsonian Magazine. He has featured College alumnae in his portraits. “The Beekeepers” is his first film.

Inspired from his 10 years as a beekeeper, the film looks at Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), which Robinson first encountered in the Netherlands. The film focuses on the 3,000 year old practice of beekeeping and the current situation of bees and beekeepers in today’s society, with interviews from CCD discoverer David Hackenburg and NASA’s Wayne Esaias. The film won Best Documentary Short at the Altanta Film Festival and has screened at Sundance, HotDocs, and Vancouver International Film Festival.

A movie discussion with Robinson will follow the screening.
