Senior Wins Award at VSSA Conference

LYNCHBURG — Four international studies students presented papers at the Virginia Social Science Association conference March 31 at the University of Richmond.

Margaret Krome-Lukens, a senior, won an award for her paper, “Non-Governmental Organization and Malian Agriculture: A Practical and Theoretical Examination of Development.” Other students presenting papers included Eighmey Zeeck, Marie Petrmanova and Kelly Chapman.

The annual conference is designed to highlight research by both students and faculty across Virginia. Dr. Yacob Hailemariam, who taught at Norfolk State University for two decades and is now a political prisoner in Ethiopia and whose case has been taken up by Amnesty International, won the Distinguished Career Award. His wife and son were there to accept the award.
