Atlantic World

The History Department of Randolph College invites applications for the position of full-time, tenure-track assistant professor in the history of the Atlantic world. The scope of this position comprises study of the people of the four continents bordering the Atlantic Ocean, especially after 1492 and the beginning of the “Columbian Exchange,” heavily emphasizing the growing interconnectedness of those continents. Preference will be given to candidates qualified to teach an introductory course on the Atlantic world and upper-level courses on the history and cultures of Africa, the Caribbean, and/or Latin America, as well as (given the centuries-long attempted Europeanization of the world) introductory courses on pre-1900 Europe.

Date of employment is July 1, 2019; report date is in mid-August. Candidates must have completed the PhD in history, or expect to do so by September 1, 2019. Teaching experience is highly desirable.  Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, brief statement of teaching philosophy, graduate transcript, and three confidential letters of recommendation to atlantichistory@randolphcollege.edu. Applications are due December 15, 2018.
