
Randolph College's annual Family Weekend is September 30 - October 2, 2011. Join us on campus for a variety of educational, social, cultural and athletic events, culminating with the ever popular Pumpkin Parade on October 1 at 8:30 p.m.
Friday, September 30
2–5 P.M. Registration for Guests. Main Hall Lobby.
2–7 P.M. Silent Auction to Support the Class of 2012’s Senior Dinner Dance. Main Hall.
3–3:45 P.M. Pumpkin Unveiling and Exchange for Sophomores and Seniors. Main Hall, Porch.
4–5 P.M. A Cappella Concert. A Capella Concert featuring Randolph College’s two a cappella groups: Songshine and Voices.
5 P.M. Skeller Sing The Skeller Sing is lively expression of the friendly rivalry between the Odd and Even Classes.
7 P.M. Randolph Volleyball vs. Mary Baldwin College. Randolph Athletics and Dance Center.
Saturday, October 1
All Day Randolph Riding away at Hollins University. Maps to the event available in the Main Hall Lobby.
9 A.M. –5 P.M Silent Auction to Support the Class of 2012’s Senior Dinner Dance. Main Hall.
9 A.M. –12 P.M. Registration for Guests. Main Hall, Lobby.
10 A.M. – 11 A.M. Academic Open House with the Faculty. Come to meet your student’s faculty and learn about new academic initiatives at the College, including our Randolph Innovative Student Experience (RISE) program, American Culture Program, University of Reading Program, Internships and International Study options, Model UN, and the Organic Garden. Representatives from the Experiential Learning Center and the Davenport Leadership Program will also be available. Refreshments served. Smith Memorial Building, Smith Banquet Hall.
10:30 A.M. – 5:30 P.M. Homecoming 2011. Experience WildCat spirit! Food, beverages, the Chariot Race, and women’s and men’s soccer. While you’re enjoying Family Weekend, come on down to WildCat Stadium for the fun!
11 A.M. – 1:30 P.M. Lunch Available for Dining-In and Carry- Out. Cheatham Dining Hall.
12:30 P.M. – 2 P.M. Student Research Showcase. Stop by to see posters and presentations of 2011 student summer research and other collaborative research current students have conducted with Randolph College faculty. Students will be available discuss their findings. Darden Area.
1 P.M. Concurrent Events:
Randolph Women’s Soccer vs. Bridgewater College. WildCat Stadium.
Guided Tours of the Maier Museum of Arts by Members of the Student Docent Club, FRAME. View The 100th Annual Exhibition of Contemporary Art: The Vision Endures. The exhibition will include artwork by a selection of important American contemporary artists who are not currently represented in the collection.
Slide Show Presentation - Randolph College Abroad: The World in Britain (affiliated in England with the University of Reading). Seniors back from England and Program Coordinator Dr. Paul Irwin will share information about this outstanding semester or full academic year option that integrates well into most students’ academic programs. Martin Science Building, Room 315.
Tour the Organic Garden. Come by the Organic Garden (OG) to learn about how our students and faculty have developed a thriving permaculture garden as a tangible example of a sustainable environment. Come visit our chickens and check out our autumn harvest.
2 P.M. The University of Reading Program Consultations. Program Coordinator Dr. Paul Irwin will be available in his office to talk individually to families and students about the program and to answer questions. No appointment necessary. Please drop in! Martin Science Building, Room 326.
3 P.M. Phantastic Physics for the Whole Family. Demonstration by Peter Sheldon, Professor of Physics. Psychology Building, Room 101.
4–5 P.M. Randolph College Music Department Showcase featuring choral ensembles and instrumental and vocal soloists. Presser Hall, Wimberly Recital Hall.
4:30 P.M. Randolph Men’s Soccer vs. Washington and Lee, WildCat Stadium.
8:15 P.M. Students and Guests gather for Pumpkin Parade.
Sophomores meet by the statue of General Jones in front of Moore Hall wearing white or light-colored clothing. Seniors meet at the Sundial wearing robes, buttons and funny hats and carrying carved pumpkins. Candles will be provided and lit as the seniors line up for the parade.
8:30 P.M. Pumpkin Parade Begins. Front Campus. Rain Site: Smith Memorial Building, Smith Banquet Hall.
9:30 P.M. Homecoming Bonfire. A warm and wonderful way to end Family Weekend and Homecoming 2011. Enjoy the fire with old friends and new. Music and karaoke by DJ Lisa with Starlight Karaoke, presented by Macon Activities Council.
9 – 10:30 P.M. It’s Star Party Season Again! Come get a view of the universe from Randolph College’s Winfree Observatory and help us celebrate the beginning of the observing season! Join us, and see the stars through our fully computer-controlled 14-inch telescope. Cloudy or not, come see our facility (and hopefully some stars) and share some snacks and beverages!
