Title II Report

The teacher preparation program at Randolph College is approved by the Virginia Department of Education. Students who completed our course of study have met all the state’s education requirements for initial licensure to teach in Virginia’s elementary or secondary schools.

During the 2002-2003 academic session, thirty students were enrolled in the teacher education program; of these students eight completed the intern-teaching requirement (one student did not fulfill graduation requirements, therefore, was not included in the program completer data). During the 2002-2003 academic session, two full-time faculty members and two part-time faculty members; a total of five faculty members were responsible for the supervision of interns (a student/faculty ratio of 1:1).

During the 2003-2004 academic session, twenty five students were enrolled in the teacher education program; of these students ten completed the teaching licensure program. Of these ten, seven were Meritorious New Teacher Candidates and received recognition in the form of a seal on their license. During the 2003-2004 academic session, three full-time faculty members and three part-time faculty; a total of six faculty members were responsible for the supervision of interns (a student/faculty ratio of 1:1).

The average number of hours per week required of intern teachers in these programs was approximately thirty-five. Fourteen weeks of supervised intern teaching was required.

All students who completed the teacher preparation program at Randolph College passed required standardized exams as prescribed by the State of Virginia (PRAXIS I and/or PRAXIS II); 100% pass rate for 2002-2003 and 2003- 2004.
