Curricular Studies Major

The major in curricular studies provides students extended breadth and integration across the content areas of English/language arts, humanities/social sciences, mathematics, and the natural sciences. The general capacities of the students are developed through a comprehensive educational experience. Their studies acquaint them with the major areas of knowledge and provide them with planned opportunities for personal, social, and ethical development.

The major is strongly recommended for all students seeking elementary teacher licensure. Students with this major who are seeking elementary teacher licensure must also complete the professional studies component and satisfy all requirements for Virginia Elementary Education PK-6.

Note: This major is only open to students who have been admitted to the Teacher Education Program and are making satisfactory progress in preparing to teach.
