Master of Arts in Teaching Commencement Schedule of Events

Save-the-date for the M.A.T. picnic!  Exact time and location to be announced at a later date.

Friday, May 11, 2018

11 a.m. – Noon Baccalaureate Service Rehearsal. Houston Memorial Chapel.  Only speakers and performers required to attend.

Saturday, May 12, 2018

10:45 a.m. Baccalaureate Service Procession Forms. Graduates to line-up in Bell Quad. Rain Site: Houston Memorial Chapel, Chapel Lounge.

11 a.m. Baccalaureate Service. Houston Memorial Chapel.  All graduates and their guests are invited to the Baccalaureate Service, which is planned by fellow students. Graduates will process in their robes. **This event is optional for all graduates, but attendance is encouraged.**

3 p.m. Master’s Degree Awards. Maier Museum of Art.

The Master of Arts in Teaching graduates will be honored during an awards ceremony on Saturday, May 12, 2018. Awards give recognition to candidates who have earned the highest honors during intern teaching, on the action research project, and those who were nominated for Virginia’s Teachers of Promise. At the awards ceremony each candidates will be recognized for individual achievements and will receive the master’s hood. Master degree hoods are formally presented and draped during commencement on Sunday, May 13.

4–5:30 p.m. Garden Party. Student Center and Michels Plaza.
Celebration for master’s degree students, undergraduates, families, and guests with the College president, administration, and faculty. Dress: Cocktail attire.

Sunday, May 13, 2018

8–9 a.m. Commencement Rehearsal. Michels Plaza. Rain Site: Smith Memorial Building, Smith Banquet Hall.
Participation is mandatory for graduates and squires. Graduates should come dressed and ready for Commencement. Cap, gown, and hood should be readily available.

9:30 a.m. Commencement Procession Forms. Graduates to line-up beginning at Michels Plaza. Rain Site: Smith Memorial Building, Smith Banquet Hall.

9:50 a.m. Commencement Procession Begins.

10 a.m. Commencement. The Dell. Rain Site: Smith Memorial Building, Smith Hall Theatre.

11:30 a.m.–2 p.m. Buffet Lunch. Cheatham Dining Hall.  A buffet lunch is available for purchase; no reservations required. Graduates are guests of honor of the College.
