Writing Lab

Improving your writing means learning better ways to analyze, organize, and convey ideas; it means becoming a critical thinker and a careful communicator — valuable skills in today’s world and tomorrow’s.

That takes work—and help. Good writing grows from the response of good readers. That’s what the Writing Lab is all about. Our staff of peer tutors and faculty director are ready to work with you one-on-one.

Whatever your skill level or your immediate need—selecting a paper topic, polishing a first draft, practicing an oral presentation, or organizing your thoughts for essay test responses, we can help you find your way to better writing. And if facing that blank white page or computer screen is sending shivers down your spine—we can help with that, too.

Visit the Writing Lab

We are located within the Academic Services Center on the 4th floor of the Lipscomb Library and are open when you need us most – Sunday through Thursday nights and selected hours Monday through Friday. But take our advice — don’t wait to come in until the night before your paper is due.

Schedule a Tutor

Make a Writing Lab tutoring appointment through our online appointment book, through the Portal (Portal > MyLinks > W > Writing Lab Appointments), or by dropping by the Lab.

Surface Matters writing guidebook
